Reading Builds Character

On Wednesday, October 26, the Parker Intermediate Reading Department hosted a Storybook Character Dress-Up Day.  Edward Tulane, Fern, The Cat in the Hat, Little Red Riding Hood, Arthur, and Katniss Everdeen were just some of the famous literary characters who showed up!  Students were motivated by the challenge of guessing the book characters and the energy of the day also fueled fun and excitement centered around literacy!  The students and staff had a wonderful day; and that same evening, the students returned as their favorite characters including Harry Potter and Robin Hood, for the Parker Fall Family Reading Night.    At this event, students worked with literature genres and reading skills by using hopscotch, Kahoot!, and more!  Additionally, students were charged with matching each teacher’s costume to the correct character and book title.  Several students were awarded books from the Book Walk and more! There was also an area designated especially for parents to learn about their child’s reading level.  Check out @ParkerAldineISD to see all of the awesome characters on Twitter!
